Description
The Urville‑Langannerie Polish Military Cemetery is the only Polish cemetery in Normandy, located near Urville, between Caen and Falaise in Calvados, France. The cemetery was inaugurated in October 1946 to honor these soldiers and is today one of seven foreign military cemeteries in France maintained by the French state.
It serves as a solemn resting place for 615 to 696 Polish soldiers—most from the 1st Polish Armoured Division—who fell during key engagements in the Battle of Normandy, particularly during the liberation of Caen and the closure of the Falaise Gap in August 1944.
